Occupational Noise Surveys and Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Compliance
Prolonged exposure at or above 85 dBA permanently damages the nerve endings in the inner ear. Hearing lost this way cannot be restored by surgery or medicine. Noise also interferes with communication and reduces productivity. Strat Environment has been helping South African workplaces stay safe and compliant since 2017. You receive your full report within 14 days of the site visit.
Who needs it. Under the Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Regulations of the OHS Act (85 of 1993), employers must:
- Assess potential noise exposure
- Have a noise survey carried out by an Approved Noise Inspection Authority every two years
- Demarcate noise zones at or above 85 dBA
- Implement hearing conservation measures
- Provide medical surveillance for exposed employees
Mines are covered by the Occupational Hygiene Regulations under the MHSA (29 of 1996).
